Binding Energy
Definition of Binding Energy
Binding Energy is the energy required to separate a nucleus into its individual nucleons. Stable nuclei are held together by a strong nuclear force so energy is added to separate the nucleons. This added energy corresponds to a mass difference (mass defect) for the individual nucleons compared to the combined nucleus.
