Physics Tutor: Steve Johnson

My intent in helping with Physics problems is to help the student understand the principle to be used, and how to apply it to the problem -- and others like it. I believe the explanations I give as I help with the problem submitted can be more help to the student than the answer to the problem. I have 6 years experience in giving online Physics help. I take pride in feedback I have received such as "My teacher doesn't teach, I wish you were my teacher".

In my previous experiences giving online Physics help, I have favored explaining to the student the steps to be taken in solving problems. I prefer to then leave plugging in the data and doing the math to the student because I believe performing those steps will help the student understand and retain that understanding. However, I will allow a paying customer to choose the service to be provided.

In addition to helping with problem solutions, I could also prepare an explanation of a concept that the student has not yet understood. That service would require the $15 per hour rate mentioned below.

I said in the table on the Physics Tutor Directory page that I could help with questions up through the first year of college Physics. There may be some topics within those years that I would decline because I would need to refresh my memory of those topics. Optics would be one of those topics.

My Service and Rate

My charges begin at $2 per problem, increasing with complexity of the problem. When giving help with more complex problems, I may request a $15 per hour rate.

At my basic rates, I will provide my reply in 24 hours. I may agree to a faster response for double my usual rate.

When you email your problem

I ask that you review your question before sending it to be certain it is described well. I will reply with my acceptance of the challenge and specify the rate I will charge. If you reply with agreement to those terms, I will send you an invoice via PayPal. When I have received confirmation of payment from PayPal, I will email my reply within 24 hours (or less if we have agreed on a faster response).

Credit may be extended to regular customers.
